Window Blinds 101
Slats, head rails, ladders? What does all of this mean? We've simplified these terms with definitions we've created in laymen’s terms. If you would like to get into the technical information, this is the area for you below:
Head Rail
The head rail of a blind contains all of the items needed for functionality and the strength to hold the entire piece together. A quality head rail will be constructed of steel rather than aluminum.
Valance
Valances not only will hide the head rail from view, but also adds styling to the window treatment. All of our blinds come standard with a valance, with decorative options available. The valance covers the head rail at the top of the blind and adds a stylish finish to any blind.
Valance Returns
A valance return is the finishing piece that molds the valance flush with most sheet-rocked windows and door applications. A return makes an "L" from the valance to the wall or door, enhancing the finished appearance where there might otherwise be a gap. Valances with returns are beneficial to decreasing light seepage at the top of a blind valance.
Slats
Slats are the strips of material stationed between the ladders. Opening the slats offers a view outside of the window, while closing them offers the privacy of a window. We offer our blind slats in both 2 inch and 2.5 inch.
Ladders
The ladders of a blind are the woven fibers that keep the formality of the slats. The ladders are also responsible for controlling the tilting, raising, and lowering functions of the blinds.
Routed, Routeless, & Smart Privacy
The routing of blinds refers to the punching holes in the slats that the blind ladder (cording) uses to keep all of the blinds in place.
A routeless blind has the same functionality except that the ladder (cord) is woven in a way that depletes the need for holes in the slats.
A Smart Privacy Blind incorporates the two in a way that's fully beneficial for the user. Better light control that routed, and easier functioning.

Controls
Just as it sounds, the controls of standard blind will control the titling, lowering, and raising of the slats. Depending on the type of blind you choose the tilt control is on the left or the right, with corded controls.
Motorized Blinds
Most of our blinds have the option for motorized tilting. A home with motorized blinds can be controlled from either a remote control or a wall switch. You are able to assign a group of blinds to a preset zone, taking your privacy and convenience to the next level.
